Summary: Motocar collects your phone number to create your account and listing data you provide. We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not run ads. Contact us at brand@motocar.africa with any questions.
1. Who we are
Motocar is Uganda's car marketplace — a mobile app and website that connects car buyers with verified sellers across Uganda. We are based in Kampala, Uganda.

2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Phone number — used to create and verify your account via OTP
- Name — your display name on your profile and listings
- Seller type — whether you are an Owner, Broker, or Car Bond
- Listing information — car details, photos, price, location and description you provide when listing
- Broker declarations — if you are a broker, the owner's name and contact declared at listing time (stored privately)
Information collected automatically
- Listing views — we count how many times a listing is viewed (per device, not linked to identity)
- WhatsApp contacts — we count how many times the WhatsApp button is tapped on a listing
Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your device location
- We do not collect your contacts
- We do not collect payment information (Motocar never handles money)
- We do not use advertising tracking
3. How we use your information
- To create and manage your Motocar account
- To display your listings to potential buyers
- To show listing statistics to the seller (views and contacts)
- To allow buyers to contact you directly on WhatsApp
- To maintain platform quality and remove listings that violate our standards
- To contact you about your account or listings if necessary
4. How we store your information
Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage), with servers located in Africa South (Johannesburg). Firebase is operated by Google LLC and is subject to Google's security standards.
Photos you upload are stored in Firebase Storage. Listing and profile data is stored in Cloud Firestore.
5. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
Publicly visible on Motocar:
- Your name (as shown on your listings)
- Your phone/WhatsApp number (shown on listings you post)
- Your seller type (Owner, Broker, or Car Bond)
- Your car listings and photos
Private (visible only to Motocar):
- Broker owner declarations (owner name and phone number)
- Bond/dealer application details
Third-party services used to operate Motocar:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, file storage
- Expo / EAS — app build and distribution
6. SMS and phone verification
We use Firebase Phone Authentication to verify your phone number via OTP SMS. Your number is used solely for account verification and is stored as your account identifier. We do not use your number for marketing SMS.
SMS delivery is handled by Firebase/Google through local carrier networks including MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda.
7. Your rights
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction — update your name or profile information in the app
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Listing removal — delete any of your own listings at any time from within the app
To request account deletion or a data export, contact brand@motocar.africa. We will process requests within 7 business days.
8. Children's privacy
Motocar is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version.
